Man Utd's Transfer Frenzy: Tonali Tempted, Sancho Dortmund-Bound, Rashford Barca Tease

Man Utd's Transfer Frenzy: Tonali Tempted, Sancho Dortmund-Bound, Rashford Barca Tease

Manchester United are pushing hard for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali amid a midfield rebuild, while Jadon Sancho edges towards a free return to Borussia Dortmund. Marcus Rashford's permanent Barcelona switch hangs in the balance over fee disputes. Newcastle face interest in multiple stars, but sales look limited.

Man Utd's Midfield Makeover: Tonali on the Radar

Fancy a pint and some transfer tittle-tattle? Manchester United are beavering away like it's deadline day at the bookies, with Sandro Tonali suddenly looking like their midfield messiah. German journo Christopher Michel from Absolut Fussball reckons the Red Devils have been tracking the Italian maestro for ages and are now 'seriously working' on a deal.

Tonali's no stranger to the spotlight – the 25-year-old dazzled at Newcastle post-ban, but with the Magpies languishing in ninth, seven points off the top five, he's eyeing Champions League footie again. Serie A sides are skint for his €100m tag, leaving the door ajar for a Prem switch. And get this: he's 'quite open' to Old Trafford. Arsenal were sniffing around earlier, but United might just pip 'em.

They're not stopping there. With Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte potentially shipping out, Man Utd need two new central mids pronto. Elliot Anderson was top of the wishlist, but Man City are favourites for the Nottingham Forest lad – sorry, not Forest, that's a mix-up; Anderson's a Toon reject they're eyeing back. Alternatives like Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba are in the frame too.

Sancho's Dortmund Deja Vu and Rashford's Barca Tango

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho's Old Trafford nightmare is nearing its endgame. The winger's contract expires this summer, and per Bild, a freebie return to Borussia Dortmund – his 'dream destination' – is 'increasingly concrete'. He shone there before the £73m United splurge in 2021, and even hit the Champs League final on loan last term.

Dortmund were iffy at first, but now they're all in. Sancho's on loan at Aston Villa this season after a Chelsea flop, and with wages around £250k-a-week, he'll need to take a haircut. Still, it could revive his career – he's looked lost elsewhere, but BVB brings out his best.

Over to Marcus Rashford, whose Barca loan's got more twists than a dodgy penalty shout. The forward's agreed personal terms and slashed his wages to seal a permanent €30m move, but Barcelona are haggling for a discount. United want no less than £26m, stalling talks. Whispers from the Daily Mail suggest Barca might push for another loan instead – cheeky, but Rashford's loving life under Hansi Flick.

Bigger Picture: Newcastle Raid and United Rebuild

United aren't done dreaming big. They're also coveting Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle, though selling multiple stars seems daft for Eddie Howe's lot. Lose Tonali? They might counter with a swoop for Anderson, but City's in the way.

James Holland at TEAMtalk has been all over this, confirming Arsenal's early Tonali interest has cooled. It's a summer of flux at United – midfield bolstering, deadwood ditching, and maybe a Rashford ripple effect. Will INEOS splash the cash? Pull up a stool; this transfer window's gonna be a belter.
