Keinan Davis: Villa's Overlooked Enforcer Now Serie A Sensation and Jamaica's Next Big Thing

Ex-Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis is thriving at Udinese with nine Serie A goals this season, outpacing most English forwards amid Harry Kane's dominance under Thomas Tuchel. Despite his form, he's eyeing a Jamaica switch over an England call-up. His bold move from Championship safety to Italy showcases grit and self-belief.

Keinan Davis: Villa's Overlooked Enforcer Now Serie A Sensation and Jamaica's Next Big Thing

Picture this: while Harry Kane is busy dominating the Bundesliga and eyeing World Cup glory under Thomas Tuchel, there's an Englishman quietly tearing it up in Italy. Step forward Keinan Davis, the ex-Aston Villa lad who's bagged nine Serie A goals this season – more than most of England's so-called strikers. As reported by Planet Football at OneFootball, his story's a right old rollercoaster of rejection, guts and goals.

Ditching the Championship Comfort Zone

Back in 2023, Davis could've stayed safe in England's second tier. Loans at Nottingham Forest and Watford had him ticking along, but Championship offers from Hull City, Stoke, Birmingham and Swansea weren't cutting it. Instead, he rolled the dice on Udinese for a bargain £2m, stepping into the boots of Beto – the Portuguese powerhouse Everton splashed over £25m on.

It wasn't plain sailing. Two injury-hit seasons yielded just four goals in 33 games, but that debut strike kept Udinese in Serie A. Fast forward to now, and the 24-year-old is exploding: nine strikes in 24 matches, including a pen in a man-of-the-match masterclass at the San Siro. Only Lautaro Martinez (14) tops the Serie A scoring charts – a throwback to the gritty '80s when top scorers barely hit double figures.

Among Englishmen in the top 15 leagues, he's third behind Kane (30) and the sidelined Mason Greenwood (15), with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Danny Welbeck (10 each) trailing. Ivan Toney? He's off to Saudi, can't stop scoring there either.

England Who? Jamaica's Gaining a Gem

Tuchel's hinted at sticking with one striker or maybe two proper No.9s for England, but the backups have flattered to deceive. Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rogers, Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford – they've barely filled Kane's boots in his 200 minutes absence. Davis? He's outscoring Watkins, Rashford, Liam Delap, Dominic Solanke and Anthony Gordon combined this term.

Yet a Three Lions call-up feels like a pipe dream. Davis is already sorting a Jamaican passport and reckons he can "see myself playing for" the Reggae Boyz. It's a shame for England – John Terry called him a "nightmare" in Villa training – but testament to his ballsy career bet.

Udinese boss Kosta Runjaic hails him as a "modern striker" with "everything". Davis, an Arsenal die-hard, credits his physical edge but says tactics are his biggest leap in Serie A. Paired with Nicolo Zaniolo in a Villa-esque duo, he's proving Udinese's striker factory works wonders.

Perseverance Pays Off in the Friuli

From Villa's academy reject to Serie A star, Davis embodies that pub yarn of the underdog who wouldn't quit. England's loss is Jamaica's gain, and Udinese are loving every minute. If Tuchel doesn't dial Italy pronto, we'll be watching him light up Caribbean shirts come World Cup qualifiers.

In a summer where Kane's bag-carriers are TBD, Davis reminds us football's full of plot twists. Who's next to gatecrash the party? Grab your popcorn – or pint – this one's just heating up.
