Bowie's Debut Stunner Flips Script as Rock-Bottom Verona Stun Bologna!
Picture this: Bologna, riding high on three straight wins and eyeing a Europa League showdown with Roma, hosting league whipping boys Hellas Verona at the Dall'Ara. What could go wrong? Well, everything for the hosts, as the Gialloblu pulled off a proper smash-and-grab, coming from behind to nick a 2-1 victory. As reported by Susy Campanale at Football Italia, it was debutant Kieron Bowie who stole the show with his first Serie A strike.
Pre-Match Blues and Injury Headaches
Bologna had their absentees: Remo Freuler suspended, Juan Miranda and Torbjorn Heggem sidelined. But Charalampos Lykogiannis was back in the fold, bolstering the defence. Verona, propping up the table, were in deeper strife – Armel Bella-Kotchap, Tobias Slotsager, Sandi Lovric, Pol Lirola, Antoine Bernede and Suat Serdar all nursing knocks. Bright spot? Gift Orban returned from his ban, ready to terrorise.
The Rossoblu started favourites, but Verona's desperation bred danger. Santiago Castro had the first sighter, his swerving effort whistling wide, but he fluffed a pull-back from Jonathan Rowe. Verona hit back on the break, Lukasz Skorupski clawing away Orban's angled rocket, while Jean-Daniel Akpa Akpro accidentally clattered into his own man.
Yellows flew early: Kieron Bowie for a lunge on Lewis Ferguson (16'), Abdou Harroui late on (42'). Half-time: 0-0, tension brewing like a dodgy pint.
Second-Half Mayhem: Rowe Strikes, Verona Rampage
Bologna exploded out the traps. Nadir Zortea drilled wide, then Riccardo Orsolini's volley from a corner smacked the post – gutting stuff. But glory came quick: Rowe sparked it, via Jens Odgaard and Zortea's pull-back, sweeping home first-time for 1-0 (49'). His maiden Serie A goal – cue the celebrations!
Verona weren't having it. Martin Frese latched onto a ropey clearance and rifled in the equaliser (53') from distance. Pandemonium four minutes later: Orban rampaged down the left on the counter, teeing up the unmarked Bowie to slot home undisturbed (57'). Another debut golazo for the ex-Hibs lad – Verona leading 2-1, Bologna shell-shocked.

Late Drama and VAR Drama
Bowie nearly made it three, fizzing wide from range. Lorenzo Montipò then pulled off a belter, tipping Odgaard's curler round the post. Controversy erupted on 85': Roberto Gagliardini shoved Benjamin Dominguez in the box, but ref waved it away. Amin Sarr broke free and buried it – only for VAR to chalk it off. Hands all over Dominguez, no arguments.
Federico Bernardeschi's free-kick sailed over, Castro nodded wide. Substitutions galore: Bologna threw on fresh legs like Dominguez (66'), Verona shuffled with Frese shining. Final whistle: Bologna 1-2 Verona (Rowe 49; Frese 53, Bowie 57).
