Inter Miami Touch Down in Style: Becks and Messi Break in the Pink Paradise of Nu Stadium
Inter Miami are gearing up for their first match at the brand-new Nu Stadium against Austin FC, complete with pink accents, a Leo Messi Stand, and a star-studded kick-about featuring David Beckham and Lionel Messi. Manager Javier Mascherano is urging focus amid the hype, despite ongoing construction and limited parking. The $350m venue promises to elevate MLS stadia standards.
Inter Miami Touch Down in Style: Becks and Messi Break in the Pink Paradise of Nu Stadium
Picture this: the sun-soaked vibes of Miami, a gleaming new stadium, and two legends sharing a hug on the pitch. That's the scene as Inter Miami finally ditched their temporary digs at Chase Stadium for the glitzy Nu Stadium at Miami Freedom Park. The MLS Cup holders are set to christen their 26,700-seat home on Saturday night against Austin FC, marking the end of six seasons playing away from the city proper.
David Beckham, the club's co-owner and the driving force behind this £350m project, couldn't wait to test the fresh Bermuda grass. Grown off-site and slotted in recently, it got its first Beckham boot treatment before the squad rolled in for a recce. As reported by Lizzy Becherano on X, Becks was snapping pics and soaking it all in, arm-in-arm with Jorge Mas and Lionel Messi.
Pink Flair and a Stand for the GOAT
One glance at Nu Stadium and you know it's Inter Miami territory. Pink, grey, and white seats hug the bowl, with black ones spelling out the club name in the lower tiers. There's a proper standing section for the ultras behind the goal, plastered with epic shots from their 2025 MLS Cup triumph – pure Goosebumps stuff.
And get this: they've got the biggest club shop in MLS, clocking in at over 11,000 cubic feet. But the real showstopper? The 'Leo Messi Stand' – a rare nod to a current player, more Euro-style than Stateside. Managing owner Jorge Mas chatted with Messi about it: "Seeing your name up there as a living legend? Unheard of. It's going to be electric."
The locker room's a riot of pink and black, with LED lights giving the place a nightclub glow. Players' areas scream Herons pride – no wonder the lads are buzzing.
Mascherano's Reality Check Amid the Hype
Messi joined the fun but sat out full training after Argentina duty and a heap of travel. His fitness for the opener's up in the air, but boss Javier Mascherano isn't sweating it. Fresh off a gritty 3-2 win at New York City FC, he's got his eye on keeping the momentum rolling.
"We've got to manage the emotions," Mascherano warned. "All that pre-match razzmatazz can make you go soft if you're not careful. Channel the buzz, lads, and go get the win." Spot on – nothing worse than getting carried away on your big day out.
Not everything's picture-perfect yet, mind. Construction's ongoing: paint jobs pending, parking garages half-built. Only 4,500 spots available, so Inter are pushing the buses and trains – a tough sell in car-mad South Florida. No safety worries, though, and Mas is confident it'll be a fortress. "A few touch-ups left, but this'll be a venue where we don't lose sleep about opponents."
Once fully kitted out, Nu Stadium could top the MLS pile, sparking a stadium boom. New York City FC's Etihad Park in 2027, Chicago Fire's pad in 2028, and maybe Vancouver next. Inter Miami's leading the charge into soccer-specific heaven.
Saturday's the real test. Austin FC won't roll over, but with Messi potentially dazzling under the lights and Becks in the stands, it's primed for magic. Fancy a pint to watch? This could be the start of something special for the Herons.
